The former CEO of Public Lighting Authority in Detroit, Odis Jones oversaw a total rebuild of Detroit’s power grid system. In addition to his work, Odis Jones keeps in contact with peers and stays abreast of current economic development trends through his membership in the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).

The IEDC recently presented its Federal Leadership in Economic Development award to Patrick O’Brien, who serves as director of the Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) at the US Department of Defense. The 2017 award was given during a luncheon held in early April in Washington, DC.

Each year, the IEDC gives this award to a federal government employee who has demonstrated a commitment to promoting economic development. As a 15-year veteran of the OEA, O’Brien has been responsible for leading economic development efforts in communities that have been affected when a military base shuts down. Under O’Brien’s direction, the OEA has provided these communities with $2 billion in assistance.
